“I’m Taking Viagra and drinking prune juice, I don’t know if I’m coming or going” Appropriate for the blog? Maybe, maybe not, but c’man, that’s hilarious! I read this in a joke book at the bookstore near work and thought it was quite appropriate seeing as I’m doing a juice cleanse this week. Or at least attempting my own version. No prunes involved, but lots of beets, carrots, apples, kale and ginger. The rules are: substitute one meal a day with juice (breakfast), no bread, no refined sugar, and no alcohol. Let me tell ya, the first day was REALLY hard (I got hungry, ok?), but it’s gotten easier, and has helped me feel, well… lighter?
Working in an office is difficult because I find it inevitable to do anything but consume grotesque amounts of bagels and donuts all.day.long. I think this little bit of structure in my diet is helping reboot my system. I’m trying to remember what it is my body actually needs, as opposed to what serves as immediate taste bud and brain receptor satisfaction. While some temptation is healthy, I’m also learning, and remembering that when it comes to food, diversity and moderation are key. This week has been and continues to be a learning experience, and practice of what I already know.
