According to WikipediaThe earliest known reference to French toast is in the Apicius, a collection of Latin recipes dating to the 4th or 5th century. Basically, yes, our ancestors also loved the good stuff.

Yesterday, I had a loaf of pretty much, almost stale bread. Truly, the best way to salvage such a loaf is to cover it in eggs, milk, vanilla and cinnamon. I prepared mine with coconut oil, to give it the additional sweetness from the fry, and enjoyed it will a cup of decaf on my patio. Oh yeah, and I was out of syrup, so I doused those slices in strawberry preserves.

  1. Ah! Maple Syrup shortage at the Linden Ladies’?! I’ll be making that my first mission to solve that crisis when I return…

    Coconut oil usage is a brilliant idea. Cheers to the decaf discipline too! Traveling abroad does not promote decaf lifestyle!

    Please can we make french toast together next week?
