This day in History 1942 – Bronx magistrate rules all pinball machines illegal

Gluten Free Cupcake from a SolarCity customer – One of my coworkers brought it to me. It’s so cute!

First stop, coffee cake and decaf coffee in Davis, CA at Mishka’s as David writes thank you cards.

The most extravagant cakes on earth at Rick’s Dessert Diner in Sacramento, CA

More absurd treats from Rick’s Dessert Diner

A cool bird platform anchored in the Putah Creek at the Davis Arboretum in Davis, CA. What a beautiful day!

Photos from the last week or so above. The month is flying by, folks! I seriously can’t believe it’s almost February. But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves for there’s still lots of fun to be had in January. I celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. day with a paid day off (thank you Mr. King!) and ate so much food. What’s new? David and I celebrated his last day at PLOS with friends in San Francisco on Friday evening, and ventured out to the flatland of the central valley on Saturday afternoon. That evening we ate a delicious meal at Aioli Bodega Espanola in Sacramento, CA. I used to work at this restaurant when they had a branch in Davis. I still have a few friends that work there, including the owner who is a lively European fellow. He speaks about a million languages and constantly gestures in grand ways. It’s always fun to go back and visit and enjoy the tapas. Everything was fresh and deliciously prepared. Afterwards, we feasted on peach pie at Rick’s Dessert Diner. While I wish we’d been able to try more of their tasty cakes, I don’t think I would have been able to stand up for they are truly beastly in size, my friends. The rest of the weekend included lots of sleeping (I got 12 hours of sleep on Sunday!), reading and spending time with my parents. Oh, and consuming all their groceries. Thanks, dad!

Have a fantastic short week, y’all!

  1. Aioli was delectable I must add! Anchovies, Arugula salad, Boureque, Mussels, Ravioli, and delicious bread with their signature white bean paste.

  2. Also, please look at how weird my hands are in the coffee-cake picture. My left hand is in its signature limp-hang mode.
